Last month we had a meeting with our Academic Mentor (if you want to know more about why we have one of those you can read this blog post) to discuss our milestones for the next couple months. We wanted to share those with you so you can know what we’ll be up to! Finish Initial Player Ability BalancingThis milestone will give a foundation to build off of with the player abilities available in Rise Of The Jemhaji. This stage consists of thinking of the name, a description and throwing in some numbers to start off with, then plugging those into the game. From there we can test the numbers and tweak them if needs be. By planning our player abilities like this, it’ll save loads of dev time as we’ll be able to see in the spreadsheet if anything looks over- or under-powered. Further testing can then be done in game but by keeping the numbers in an easy to read spreadsheet it’ll be easier to find and change numbers instead of rooting through all of our ScriptableObjects. Complete Level Designs For The First 5 MapsCompleting the first level designs will be useful in not only helping our map artist know what a certain area looks like, but also for planning the main quest-line and any side quests available. We have created level design sketches in such a way that we have room to make notes around the nodes to show which quest objectives would be completed when the player goes there. By completing these level designs, we hope that we will also have a sizable chunk of the main story quests completed, as well as a quarter of Rise Of The Jemhaji’s world. Finish The First Playable VersionBoth of the previously mentioned milestones, along with a couple more tasks we have to do, will come together to make the First Playable version of the game. Not complete to be a full alpha test, but more fleshed out than the prototype, the First Playable will contain the core mechanics and elements of the game. While this version will not qualify for alpha testing, we will definitely be reaching out to friends and peers to playtest the game and get some much needed feedback on Rise Of The Jemhaji. After this stage, and some successful playtests, creating the rest of the game should be a breeze (but yet again, this is game dev, we all know it probably won’t be that). We’re really excited about where we’ll be with our 2D mobile RPG at the end of these milestones! We’ll be sharing updates of our progress all over our social channels. We’ll also be sharing the graphic at the top of this post as a form of roadmap, as well as putting it on our News page.
